Cresting Wave Beaded Wrist Warmer

It's Free!

Needles:  Size 0/1 set of 5 double point needles

Size 14 steel crochet hook (if you have size 1 needles, they will work as well)

Yarn:  Victory Ranch Baby Alpaca, Lace Weight 50gr, small beads that you can pull yarn through with crochet hook.

Notions:  small beads, size 14 crochet hook

These are knitted with only one small seam.  The cresting wave ruffle is knitted and attached at the same time.  It is an easy technique once you try it.

Size:  Small (6-7 inches) Medium (7+ inches) (this is very stretchy)

Gauge:  6.5 st = 1”  approximate.

Hints: Hold crochet hook parallel to floor with yarn under tension hanging straight down & hook pointing up.  Bead will turn the corner onto yarn.  Pulling straight out splits the yarn.

After binding off 4 st you will knit yo from last row.  This is a reminder you are at the correct spot to begin knitting.

Abbreviations & Instructions

B1: knit (purl) st, replace needle with crochet hook that has bead slipped onto it, slide bead to yarn.  Slip needle back in st, snug up, and proceed with instructions.

Set aside for use later.

Cast on 54 (60) st using long tail method over 2 needles.

1-9)       *k3, p3* repeat to end

10)        *K1, b1, k1, p3* repeat to end

11-14)  *k3, p3* repeat to end

15)        *k3, p1,b1,p1* repeat to end

16-19)  *k3, p3* repeat to end

20)        *K1, b1, k1, p3* repeat to end

21-24)  *k3, p3* repeat to end

25)        *k3, p1,b1,p1* repeat to end

26-29)  *k3, p3* repeat to end

30)        *K1, b1, k1, p3* repeat to end

31-35)  *k3, p3* repeat to end

Do not break yarn.

Using another needle, cast on 11 st with 1 yard piece using long tail method with slip knot in middle of yarn.  Leave long tails to join front to back at thumb later.  Have needle with cast on st in left hand; using the yarn coming from last st of ribbing and work with needle one (would be next needle in line if you worked more ribbing)

Begin knitting row 1 of pattern. See photo. You now have 2 needles holding ribbing not being used and 2 that you are using to knit with.  Reset RC to 0

1) WS row:  k3, yo, k2tog, k1, yo, k2tog, k1, yo, k2, turn (12 st)

2) RS row: k1, yo, k10, sl1, psso, turn (13 st) One rib st worked off

3) WS row: k3, yo, k2tog, k1, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k2, turn (14 st)

4) RS row: k13, sl1, k1, psso, turn (14 st) two rib st now worked off

5) WS row: k3, yo, k2tog, k1, yo, k2tog, k1, yo, k5 (15 st)

6) RS row: B1, bind off 4 st, k9, sl1, k1, psso, turn (11 st) three rib st worked off

Repeat these six rows until all rib st are worked off needles. (18 (20) repeats) These will look skewed to the right as you work them, but they straighten out when finished.  One repeat works off one rib channel (3 knit st or 3 purl st), so you can check how many k or p st remain to know what row you are ready to knit.  This pattern is formed by all knit rows (garter st).

Finish: bind off 11 st and graft edges together being sure to match design.  Stop joining were the bind off begins at the cresting wave.  Count six beads from joined seam and using both of the hanging pieces from the cast on yarn, sew one side to the other with about a ˝ inch gap.  Anchor threads on far side and then cover the yard by pulling a loop with left thumb and going under with needle and up through loop.  Work these st across to other side to cover yarn.  Tie off and work in ends.  Work another wrist warmer to match.  Be sure to make a left and a right.  The join should be on the palm side of the wrist warmer.
